CPX International Information

CPX International Inc. (formerly The International Society for Exercise Intolerance Research and Education (ISEIRE)) is a Society that has been established since 1996, and organises the annual European ‘Practicum in Exercise Testing and Interpretation’. It aims to :

  • improve the quality of life of people with exercise intolerance, through research and education;
  • provide information regarding prevention and control of exercise intolerance to its sufferers, health professionals, and to the public at large;
  • keep members (and others) apprised of recent advances and emerging concepts and practices in exercise science and medicine;
  • promote collaborative research related to exercise intolerance

The Society invites applications for membership from physicians, teachers, technical support personnel and other health care professionals with interest in the causes, consequences and amelioration of exercise intolerance, with membership benefits including:

  • access to materials presented at the Society’s Practicums;
  • forum for presenting research findings to Society members with similar general interests;
  • access to the Society’s Website providing:
    • articles written by experts in the field on a wide range of topics regarding both concepts and practices in “Exercise Testing and Interpretation”;
    • means of interacting with others with collaborative research and/or teaching interests;
    • updates on upcoming “Meetings of Interest” and also “Articles of Interest”

iPOETTS Information

iPOETTS was formed as a merger of the Perioperative Exercise Testing and Training Society (POETTS) and International Prehabilitation Society (IPS) to promote our shared belief in the importance of prehabilitation.

Prehabilitation can be defined as the process of care initiated before surgery or other treatments to promote healthy behaviours through the needs-based prescribing of exercise, nutrition, psychological and lifestyle interventions. Prehabilitation aims to empower patients to maximise resilience to surgery/treatment, facilitate recovery from surgery/treatment and improve long-term health.

iPOETTS aims to promote the highest standards of care for patients undergoing prehabilitation and to promote the professional practice of prehabilitatation and exercise testing. We aim:

  • To promote and deliver training and education in prehabilitation and exercise testing, including advising on education and training curricula for medical and healthcare practitioners.
  • To promote the development of the workforce required to implement prehabilitation in various health care systems.
  • To promote the development, conduct and dissemination of audit, quality improvement, research and innovation to further the development of prehabilitation

POETTS Accreditation

POETTS was established in 2016  to promote standardised practice through consensus guidelines and standardised education and training and to conduct and disseminate audit, quality improvement and research in the field of perioperative exercise testing and training.  With the advent of multimodal prehabilitation (optimising metabolic and psychological fitness alongside physical fitness), the remit of POETTS has expanded to include physical, nutritional and psychological optimisation prior to surgery or other treatments such as chemotherapy for cancer.

POETTS EDUCATION
POETTS has developed standardised training for perioperative cardiopulmonary exercise testing (POETTS) including an accreditation process which involves a period of supervised practice and reporting under the mentoring of a POETTS accredited physician. We deliver a standardised course twice a year in London, which we aim to deliver online this Autumn.  We run a one day conference annually as part of the Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine conference

POETTS GUIDELINES
POETTS have published consensus clinical practice guidelines for the performance of perioperative cardiopulmonary exercise testing which include staffing, indications, contraindications and physiological interpretation (Levett et al, BJA 2018).
