Jaideep J Pandit

DR JAIDEEP J PANDIT, MA, BM, DPHIL, FRCA

Dr Pandit is Consultant Anaesthetist and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford (since 1999). He trained in Medicine at Oxford (1982-8), where he obtained a double First in Physiology, and obtained prizes in Medicine, Cardiology and Clinical Pharmacology. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship to support a DPhil in Respiratory Physiology (on the effects of exercise on control of breathing 1990-3), and then undertook his anaesthetic training in the Oxford region. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA (1998-9).

His research interests are in: respiratory physiology, anaesthesia for carotid artery surgery, difficult airway management and latterly, health economics and operating room management.

He is elected to a 4-year term as Chairman of the Medical Staff Committee of the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust (ie, Chairman of Consultants) representing over 450 consultants in negotiations with Trust management and sits on the Local Negotiating Committee. He has held several managerial posts as Staffing Consultant for the department, Clinical Lead for the 24-strong John Radcliffe group of consultant anaesthetists.

Nationally, he is an independent member of Consultant Contracts Appeals Panels, Academic Strategy Officer of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (co-writing the National Strategy for Academic Anaesthesia), member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and Editor of Anaesthesia. He is currently the Scientific Officer of the Difficult Airway Society.

He is a Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford. He has received the Gold (Jubilee) Medal and Humphry Davy Medal of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
