Professor Samuel J Machin is Professor of Haematology in charge of the Haemostasis Research Unit at University College London and has been a Consultant Haematologist to the University College London Hospitals since 1980. He is also the Medical Director of The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) which is the largest independent based pathology company in the UK.
His research interests involve haemostasis, thrombosis and platelet disorders. He has published more than 300 research papers in prime review journals and he is an international expert in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome and the thrombotic microangiopathies.
He is past President of the British Society for Haematology (2005-2007) and past President of the British Society for Haemostasis and Thrombosis (2001 ? 2003). He is presently Chairman of the British Committee for Standards in Haematology (BCSH) and is actively involved in many local, national and international committees in the field of haemostasis and thrombotic disorders.
