Savvas Giannaris is Consultant Anaesthetist at UCL Hospitals. Savvas was born in Corinth (Greece), studied medicine at University of Goettingen (Germany) and trained in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, Pain and Emergency Medicine at the University Hospital of Bonn and the Heart Hospital in London (UCL Hospitals).
He completed further training and passed the German Board qualifying examinations in Advanced Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine and out of hospital Resuscitation and Health Informatics.
Savvas was previously research fellow within the framework “Collaborative Research Centre 330” of the German Research Foundation (DFG), and awarded a Doctorate from University of Goettingen for his work on the influence of dexamethasone on the perioperative fluid distribution during CABG surgery. Savvas is currently member of several societies of Anaesthesiology, Associate Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and Diplomate of the European Society of Anaesthesiology. His key interests are in cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia but also undertakes a wide range of anaesthesia for all specialties including orthopaedics and trauma, gastrointestinal surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, maxillofacial surgery, urology and opthalmology.
Savvas has advanced training and expertise in transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and has successfully passed the TOE examination of the European Association of Echocardiography.
Savvas is a founding member of the H.E.A.R.T. group at UCL Hospitals.
