Anita Sugavanam is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Lead for adult general anaesthesia and patient blood management at University Hospitals Sussex. She is an Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer at the University of Sussex. She has also worked as a consultant at the Danube Hospital in Vienna, Austria.
Her research interests lie in point-of-care coagulation testing and perioperative anaemia. She is co-founder of a national working group studying postoperative anaemia in emergency surgical patients. She also has interests in global health and is director of the Brighton-Zambia Anaesthesia Partnership (BrightZAP). She is also founder of the Experts in Healthcare Exchange; a platform for promoting medical leadership and mentorship and exchanges between senior healthcare professionals.
