Rachael Barlow is Clinical Lead for prehabilitation and enhanced recovery in Wales. She is based in Cardiff. Rachael set up the all Wales Enhanced recovery programme in 2009. Since then has led the national prehabilitation programme which initially focussed on lung cancer patients. She is now leading a system wide transformation of patient optimisation and prehabilitation across primary and secondary care for people with cancer with the aim of improving cancer outcomes both in the short and longer term.
Rachael graduated as a dietitian in 1994 and studied for her PhD in Cardiff university School of Medicine, between 2004-2007. Her findings for her PhD won several prizes including the British Journal of Surgery Prize (2008). She is a previous leadership fellow of the Health Foundation 2003-2007. She has won several UK level prizes for her work.
