Nader Francis is a laparoscopic colorectal surgeon with national and an international profile and reputation that attract patients from beyond the region. He is committed to minimal access surgery and enhanced recovery and continues to improve patient experience through an excellent relationship with the whole Multi-disciplinary team. In addition to fostering this locally he has working to promote the spread and adoption of enhanced recovery nationally through Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS-UK) society, which he chairs.
Nader is passionate about education and training in health care with a prior educational PhD in surgical skills assessment in laparoscopic surgery which underpinned his national role as a trainer and educational lead in the field. This has generated several publications in the field and recently has been appointed as the National Educational Tutor for Coloproctology to develop an education portfolio for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI).
Nader has key research interest in education; colorectal cancer; laparoscopic surgery and perioperative care and has been a chief investigator of a number of studies including two NIHR pilot randomised controlled trials investigating optimum analgesia after laparoscopic colorectal surgery and the timing of surgery after chemoradiotherapy for advanced rectal cancer. As an acknowledgement to his research activities, Nader has been appointed as the lead of Surgery and Colorectal Cancer at the South West Peninsulas Clinical Research Network. Current research activities include education and translational research in colorectal cancer surgery.
