We are sad to report that Brian Whipp died on October 20th 2011 after a short illness. He was an inspirational scientist, colleague and friend and will be sorely missed by many.
Brian J. Whipp, Ph.D., D.Sc.: Emeritus Professor of Physiology, St George’s Hospital Medical School, U.K.
His research interests centre on exercise bio-energetics, and the control of ventilation and pulmonary gas exchange during exercise in health and disease. In addition to more than 300 publications on these topics, he is author or co-author of nine books and monographs.
Among his academic awards: American College of Sports Medicine’s Citation Award and Joseph B. Wolffe Memorial Lectureship; American College of Chest Physicians’s Distinguished Scientist Honor Lectureship; and the American Physiological Society’s Honor Award for Environmental and Exercise Physiology.
